We were warmly welcomed into Kampong Chhnang by Ruriko, the delightful friend of Mayu who has been working with the Japanese government to implement sports programs in schools. We started the day at the 270km mark of our journey and covered a further 155km in a decent time of 5.5 hours. From the tourist honey pot of Siem Reap we made our way due south east to the rural village Okuru Kae. We traded the bars and restaurants for paddy fields and rubber plantations.

Buses, trucks, vans, cars, motorbikes and the odd tuk tuk fill up the roads of Cambodia. There is a center line painted neatly on most roads but very little regard for its use. It seems to be more there to mark the middle of the road than to separate traffic. Steaming down the road at a respectable 35km/h it only took us 6.5 hours (including breaks) to do the 170km from Battambang to Siem Reap.
