Sure we show movies but what else are we involved in?
Creativity, curiosity, and imagination are what we’re trying to encourage and we want to ensure that, even when we’re not around, the kids have the chance to flex their cranial muscles. Over the past few weeks one of the long term volunteers at a local NGO, Ms Begoña Goienetxe (don’t ask me how to say that last name), has been fundraising like crazy to realise our collective ambition to inspire the imagination of the kids in the preschools here in Pursat.
Begoña saw that the kids don’t have toys which are notably vital in terms of the initial development of a child’s hand-eye-coordination, cognitive thinking, and communication skills. Begoña raised a commendable $795 and has set out to purchase and distribute toys amongst the Pursat schools and our Tuk Tuk communities.
The kids received building blocks, educational electronic devices, balls, bowling pins and other fun things to play with. Amazingly I think that the balls were the biggest hit proving that simple is better when working with small kids. Nonetheless the toys were pulled apart, swapped and shared, reassembled and thoroughly cherished by all. How did all the toys arrive at the preschools, you ask? Just like Santa’s Sleigh, the big red Tuk Tuk was the vehicle of choice.
A big thanks to Begoña for all of her effort. Check out some of the kids reactions in the pictures below…
